Ja-TLIs: integrating web 2.0 toolsThis is a featured page

The Caribbean Knowledge and Learning Network (CKLN) takes pleasure in sponsoring this workshop on the use of web 2.0 tools for advancing education through technology integration.

(Read about the Digital Hole in the Caribbean on the CKLN website.)

The objective of our workshop, and this website is to discover, through exploration, some aspects of web 2.0 tools that can help to enhance the effectiveness of college lecturers who train the minds of Jamaican young people.

Web 2.0 refers to a new evolution of the world wide web (www). In the early phase of development, the Internet (web 1.0) only facilitated information flowing in one direction. You could RECEIVE information from the Internet. Web 2.0 now offers several tools that facilitate far greater two-way interaction.

Our workshop will explore some of these tools and determine which ones will best suit our particular needs.

We will also develop a skeleton Open Educational Resource (OER), which can be later expanded to suit the real needs of participants in our institutions.

Start your exploration by visiting the following site: http://web20primer.wetpaint.com/
follow the links on the site to learn about some of the web 2.0 tools then come back here to share your discoveries and/or ideas.

Next, visit the following sites to learn about WebQuests.

Click the link to your institution on the left and help to edit the pages there by:
  • Helping to develop your home page.
  • Sharing your ideas for using some of these tools.
  • Creating additional pages as you see useful.
  • Providing links to sites you have found that may be beneficial to others
  • Starting discussion threads.
  • Developing an online course for your students using these tools.

You may also visit the following links to see ideas for designing open courseware.

I think the JBTE Conference held in 2010 has been the most meaningful and 'sensible' one I have ever attended. Is this new way forward, colleagues?

It is amazing to know how well visuals arts has been driving the curriculum over the years. This is most evident in education at the basic, pre-primary and primary levels. It also plays a significant role in making learning visible in subject areas such as science, geography, cosmotology, literature to name a few. With the integration of technology so much more can be achieved in the schools as we prepare for the different types of learners.
